Despite only recently re-entering the race to purchase Everton, Friedkin’s primary focus remains on the Italian club he currently owns. His recent decision there speaks volumes about his management style.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, “AS Roma have sacked manager Daniele de Rossi. After 3 points in 4 games, de Rossi has been fired by Roma owners Friedkin family.” This ruthless move suggests that Sean Dyche’s position at Everton would be far from secure under Friedkin’s ownership.
Had Friedkin successfully completed his initial Everton takeover bid in July and assumed control before the season began, it’s now clear that he likely wouldn’t have tolerated the current run of poor form. Consider that it took just seven months for him to dismiss club legend De Rossi at Roma after a disappointing start of three points from four Serie A matches.
Comparing this to Everton’s current predicament – pointless after four Premier League games and now eliminated from the League Cup – it’s easy to imagine that Dyche would already be on thin ice if Friedkin were in charge.
Without a hands-on owner at present, Dyche appears to have considerable autonomy, seemingly free from the threat of repercussions from above. However, should Friedkin eventually take the reins at Everton, Dyche would have reason to be concerned about his job security. Friedkin’s willingness to part ways with De Rossi so early in the season at Roma indicates that he’s not one to hesitate when he feels change is necessary.
