Bissouma is reportedly willing to forgo the final-year option in his contract to speed up his departure, underlining just how unhappy he has become at the club. The 29-year-old joined Spurs from Brighton for around £35 million but has struggled to secure a consistent starting role.
Under both Ange Postecoglou and Thomas Frank, he has often found himself on the fringes of the squad, with his frustration steadily building. His time at the club has also been overshadowed by several off-field issues, which have not helped his standing.
Contract situation and Spurs’ stance
From Tottenham’s perspective, the situation appears clear-cut. With Bissouma’s contract nearing its end and no intention to offer a renewal, his exit seems inevitable. His disciplinary record has also raised concerns among the coaching staff, with repeated lateness to training and reported off-field incidents testing the patience of those in charge.
Tactical fit under De Zerbi
There are also doubts over whether Bissouma would suit Roberto De Zerbi’s tactical approach. While his strengths lie in ball-winning, carrying possession, and defensive transitions, De Zerbi’s system demands midfielders who can dictate tempo, operate under pressure, and consistently progress play.
Although Bissouma could fill a short-term role as a defensive option in a double pivot, he was unlikely to become a key figure in the Italian’s long-term plans due to limitations in his passing range and control.
A move that suits everyone
A switch to Fenerbahce appears to be the most logical outcome. It would offer Bissouma a fresh start and regular playing time, while Tottenham would free up wages and move forward with their rebuild under De Zerbi. As changes begin to take shape at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Bissouma looks set to be one of the first players to depart.
