AliousA furious Jamie O’Hara has conceded that Tottenham Hotspur are heading for relegation from the Premier League, warning that even Roberto De Zerbi cannot rescue a squad he believes is filled with underperforming players after their latest defeat to Sunderland.
Spurs’ miserable run continued with a 1-0 loss on Sunday, leaving them 18th in the table and two points from safety. Having failed to win a league match since December 28, they are now staring at relegation and no longer control their own destiny. By the time they face Brighton & Hove Albion next weekend in a must-win clash, it will have been 111 days since their last Premier League victory—one of the worst such runs in recent history.
Reacting on Sky Sports, O’Hara tore into several players, branding their performances unacceptable and accusing the team of lacking fight, quality, and passion.
He singled out names such as Conor Gallagher, Randal Kolo Muani, Dominic Solanke, Richarlison, and Destiny Udogie, labelling their displays “shocking” and insisting a team cannot carry so many struggling individuals in a relegation battle.
O’Hara stressed that while De Zerbi is a capable coach, he cannot perform miracles without the players delivering on the pitch. According to him, Spurs currently show no signs of being good enough to survive, with standards having dropped drastically from what is expected at the club.
Given their alarming form, O’Hara believes Tottenham’s chances of staying up are now as low as 10 percent. He questioned where the required points would come from, especially with rivals like West Ham United, Nottingham Forest, and Leeds United showing far more determination and consistency.
He also criticised Solanke in particular, pointing to the striker’s £60 million price tag and suggesting his performance against Sunderland was among the worst he has seen, adding that De Zerbi must be deeply frustrated with the lack of quality available to him.
Despite the bleak outlook, De Zerbi remains determined to turn things around. The Italian insists that one victory could completely shift the team’s mindset and reignite their survival hopes. He acknowledged the difficult period but urged his players to respond with belief, energy, and unity.
De Zerbi maintained that while his squad possesses quality, they are currently struggling mentally. He emphasised the need to focus on securing a single win, which he believes could spark a turnaround, while also admitting that implementing his tactical ideas will take time given the limited number of training sessions so far.
Off the pitch, uncertainty also surrounds the squad’s future. Reports suggest Spurs are already exploring potential summer reinforcements, including a high-profile Premier League signing, while a key emotional figure at the club could be among the first to depart. Interest is also said to remain in a FC Barcelona midfielder, and Tottenham may face competition from multiple clubs in their pursuit of Andy Robertson.
