AliousTottenham Hotspur have been fined £10,000 and issued a warning by UEFA, with former interim head coach Igor Tudor also cautioned, following incidents during their Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid.
The match in Spain was already notable for Spurs’ disastrous start, as they fell 4-0 behind within just 22 minutes. Goalkeeper Antonín Kinský was substituted after only 17 minutes following a couple of costly errors.
Beyond the on-pitch struggles, disciplinary issues also emerged. UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body ruled that Tottenham should receive a warning for “improper conduct of the team” after five players in the starting lineup were booked during the last-16 encounter. The club was also fined €10,000 (£8,656) for causing a delayed kick-off, with Tudor personally receiving a warning for the same offence.
Spurs went on to lose the first leg 5-2 against Diego Simeone’s side. Although they responded with a 3-2 victory in the return leg eight days later, it was not enough to overturn the deficit and secure a place in the quarter-finals. Tudor subsequently departed the club and was replaced by Roberto De Zerbi.
Now under De Zerbi, who has signed a five-year deal, Tottenham’s focus has shifted to survival in the Premier League. The North London side currently sit 18th, just two points from safety.
They face a crucial test this Saturday with a trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers, already relegated, knowing they must secure their first league win of 2026.
