AliousTottenham Hotspur boss Roberto De Zerbi has admitted the club is still in the dark over the severity of Cristian Romero’s injury after the defender was forced off during their 1-0 defeat to Sunderland A.F.C. on Sunday.
The Spurs captain suffered a painful collision in the second half at the Stadium of Light, clashing with goalkeeper Antonín Kinský following contact initiated by forward Brian Brobbey.
Both players required lengthy treatment on the pitch, with Kinský eventually able to continue despite a head bandage—but Romero was unable to carry on, limping off visibly emotional.
Speaking after the match, De Zerbi revealed that the full extent of the injury is still unknown and will only become clearer in the coming days.
He expressed hope that the issue is not serious, stressing just how vital Romero is to the team—not only for his performances but also for his leadership and presence in the dressing room.
When pressed on whether the problem could be related to Romero’s knee, the Spurs manager suggested it was a possibility, but refused to confirm anything prematurely, insisting the club must wait for further assessment.
