Roberto De Zerbi gathered his players and staff at Bacchanalia in Mayfair on Wednesday evening. The upscale restaurant, known for its lavish setting, serves main courses priced between £40 and £130 and features striking sculptures by Damien Hirst.
Tottenham Hotspur are currently battling a very real threat of relegation from the Premier League. Despite being Europa League holders, they find themselves stuck in the drop zone, though just two points separate them from safety.
Spurs are still searching for their first league win of 2026 and recently turned to De Zerbi in hopes of rescuing what has been a disastrous season.
De Zerbi is the club’s third manager of the campaign, following interim boss Igor Tudor, who was unable to steady the ship after taking over from Thomas Frank.
Much like his predecessor, De Zerbi’s tenure began with defeat, as Tottenham fell 1-0 to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
With only six matches remaining, the Italian has opted for a different strategy, attempting to strengthen unity within the squad as they fight to avoid the drop.
Tottenham are now feeling the consequences of persisting with Thomas Frank for too long. His appointment raised eyebrows from the outset, particularly after the club expressed ambitions of competing on multiple fronts following their Europa League triumph.
While Frank impressed during his time at Brentford, he ultimately proved to be an ill-fitting successor to Ange Postecoglou.
Warning signs had been evident for months, yet the club’s hierarchy delayed taking decisive action, allowing the situation to deteriorate further.
By the time changes were made, Spurs had already been dragged into a relegation scrap and are now staring at the possibility of dropping out of the Premier League for the first time.
At this stage, it will take far more than a morale-boosting dinner to change their trajectory. However, with their fate still technically in their own hands, there remains a glimmer of hope.
