Harry Kane has finally achieved the success he long chased. After years of carrying Tottenham Hotspur as their standout figure without major silverware, the England captain is now enjoying the rewards of his 2023 move away.

Winning Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich may not come as a surprise given the club’s dominance, but Kane’s individual impact has been exceptional. The 32-year-old has racked up 51 goals in all competitions this season, taking his overall tally to an incredible 136 goals in just 139 appearances for the German side—further strengthening his case as one of the best strikers in world football today.

Meanwhile, back in north London, Tottenham are still searching for a true successor to their former academy star. Dominic Solanke and others have yet to fully convince, leaving a clear gap in the squad.

There were signs of improvement in Roberto De Zerbi’s side during Saturday’s clash with Brighton, but the attack continues to struggle for consistency. Solanke has managed just three Premier League goals in an injury-hit season, while Randal Kolo Muani has only found the net once in the league since arriving on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.

Strengthening the forward line remains a priority, though much will depend on whether Spurs can secure their Premier League status. Even so, some targets—such as James Trafford—are reportedly interested in joining regardless of the club’s fate.

One such player is former Spurs prospect Troy Parrott. According to Alasdair Gold of football.london, the Republic of Ireland international is keen on a return to his old club this summer, even if they are relegated.

Parrott was sold to AZ Alkmaar in 2024 for £6.7m, with Spurs including a 20% sell-on clause in the deal. Now valued at around £22m, the 24-year-old has attracted attention from several top clubs, including Napoli, Real Betis, Bayer Leverkusen, and Ajax. Despite that interest, he is said to be open to a return to Tottenham to settle unfinished business.

With Spurs still lacking a consistent goal scorer, Parrott could emerge as a strong candidate to fill the void left by Kane. It’s all the more impressive, then, that Ange Postecoglou managed to guide the team to a fifth-place finish shortly after Kane’s departure—despite not signing a direct replacement until the following summer.

That patience hasn’t exactly delivered the desired results. Solanke, the eventual signing, has managed just 12 league goals across two seasons in north London.

Richarlison’s record is hardly more convincing either, with 25 league goals in four years at the club, underlining why signing a reliable centre-forward must be a top priority this summer.

Whether Troy Parrott can finally step into the role once held by Harry Kane remains uncertain. His first spell at Tottenham brought only four senior appearances, as he spent most of his time out on loan before being sold permanently two years ago.

Things may not have worked out initially, but the Irish forward has since transformed his career. He has scored an impressive 50 goals in 92 matches for AZ Alkmaar, after previously netting 17 times in 32 games during the 2023/24 season at Excelsior.

Much like Kane in his early years, Parrott’s loan spells in England’s lower leagues were underwhelming, producing just 16 goals across stints with Millwall, MK Dons, Preston, and Ipswich. However, that experience now appears to have played a key role in his development.

This season has been particularly outstanding, with Parrott contributing 41 goals and assists in just 45 appearances across all competitions. He also recently found the net in the final as his side lifted the KNVB Cup.

On the international stage, the Dublin-born striker has become a key figure for a resurgent Republic of Ireland team, scoring 11 goals in 35 appearances, including a remarkable five-goal haul against Portugal and Hungary during World Cup qualifiers.

Now regarded as a proven and clinical finisher at both club and international level, Parrott also offers creativity—making him an ideal fit for Roberto De Zerbi’s high-pressing system.

One respected Premier League analyst has even described him as “very similar to Harry Kane,” suggesting he could make a major impact if given a consistent run of games at Tottenham.

At present, Parrott looks like a missed opportunity for Spurs, but with the £22m-rated striker reportedly open to returning, the door may be open for a second chapter at the club.
