However, a late lapse in concentration from Kevin Danso proved costly. Brighton were handed a chance to get back into the game, and Georginio Rutter made no mistake as he struck late to rescue a point.
The result did little to boost Tottenham’s situation, leaving them stuck in the bottom three with just five matches remaining. They now sit two points from safety, though there is still a path out of the relegation zone if they defeat Wolves and West Ham United fail to overcome Everton.
Sadly, Danso’s late error also led to racist abuse from a minority of individuals — something that has no place in football or at Tottenham. Head coach Roberto De Zerbi addressed the issue firmly in his press conference, expressing his frustration while offering strong support for the defender.
He said he was angered by the abuse but praised Danso’s response, highlighting the Austrian’s overall performance and character. De Zerbi insisted that one mistake does not define a player, adding that Danso will remain at the club next season and describing him as both a top professional and an important figure in the squad.
With injuries continuing to affect Tottenham’s defence, Danso has remained a dependable option, regularly stepping up when called upon. Against Brighton, aside from the late mistake, his overall display and underlying numbers once again reflected his consistency.
