The Lilywhites have yet to win a single penalty in the Premier League this campaign, while a string of questionable decisions in recent weeks has only deepened frustration among the fanbase.
One such moment came when the Premier League’s Key Match Incidents (KMI) panel acknowledged that Brian Brobbey should have been sent off during Sunderland’s 1-0 victory over Spurs, after shoving Cristian Romero into the path of Antonin Kinsky.
Another flashpoint arose in Tottenham’s narrow win at Molineux. Wolves midfielder Andre escaped with just a yellow card despite appearing to launch into a two-footed challenge on Yves Bissouma in midfield.
However, former referee Dermot Gallagher backed Anthony Taylor’s call, arguing that the Brazilian slipped during the challenge and did not generate enough force or intensity to warrant a red card. Speaking to Sky Sports, Gallagher explained that the referee made the correct decision, as Andre failed to execute the tackle he initially intended.
Unsurprisingly, these incidents have left Spurs supporters increasingly disillusioned, with some questioning whether officials have been overly harsh on their side during a crucial stage of the relegation battle.
Their frustration was compounded further in another match, where Everton were denied a penalty against West Ham despite Mateus Fernandes appearing to handle the ball inside the area during the Hammers’ 2-1 win.
