The 26-year-old’s contract, worth £150,000 per week, expires next summer.
Spurs have reportedly matched Juventus’ €6 million per year offer (about £5 million).
However, Chiesa is said to be seeking closer to €8 million per year (£7 million).
Earlier reports suggest it would cost Tottenham around £25 million to secure Chiesa a year before his contract expires.
While the deal may be complex, Chiesa’s quality makes it worth pursuing, especially as he could be an excellent rival for Johnson.
Chiesa primarily plays on the right side of a front three, which is where he’d likely fit at Tottenham.
Comparing Chiesa and Johnson’s performances last season, Johnson slightly edges out in terms of goal contributions, with a goal or assist every 2.53 games compared to Chiesa’s 2.84 games.
However, Chiesa’s underlying statistics are generally stronger, particularly in areas like non-penalty goals, progressive passes and carries, shots, key passes, and shot-creating actions.
Given Chiesa’s reported availability and his potential to push other wingers in the team to improve, Tottenham should seriously consider this transfer opportunity.
