Spurs are hopeful that James Maddison will make an appearance before the campaign ends, with the club fighting hard to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
However, speculation is growing that the 29-year-old could leave N17 if Roberto De Zerbi’s side fail to retain their top-flight status.
Maddison tipped for emotional Coventry return
Former Tottenham scout Mick Brown, who remains well-connected within football circles, believes Coventry City could make a move for Maddison following their promotion to the Premier League.
Having come through the ranks at the West Midlands club, Maddison could be tempted by a sentimental return to his boyhood side—especially if Spurs are relegated.
Speaking to Football Insider, Brown said: “There’s something in the idea of James Maddison going to Coventry City. He’s always been open about his connection to the club, having come through their system, so it’s a move that could appeal to him on a personal level.
“First and foremost, though, he needs to regain full fitness—that will be his priority. Once that’s sorted, decisions about his future can follow. If Tottenham go down, he may not want to play in the Championship.
“Coventry could see that as an opportunity to bring him back to the Premier League. They might be more willing than others to take that chance. Of course, there will be concerns—he’ll need to prove he can stay fit and perform at the highest level again after such a long injury layoff.
“But Coventry could offer him patience and a familiar environment where he feels comfortable. If he’s ready by pre-season, a move there could make a lot of sense.”
Coventry also eyeing another Spurs midfielder
Maddison may not be the only Tottenham player on Coventry’s radar. Reports from TEAMtalk suggest the newly promoted side are also considering a move for Conor Gallagher this summer as they aim to strengthen their squad with proven Premier League talent.
Despite the speculation, other sources indicate that Tottenham could choose to retain both Maddison and Gallagher—even in the event of relegation.
