AliousXavi Simons has provided an update on his recovery after confirming he will be sidelined for several months with a serious knee injury.
The Dutch winger sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear during Tottenham’s 1-0 victory over Wolves on Saturday. He was stretchered off in the second half, and the club later confirmed the severity of the injury in an official statement.
On Monday, Spurs announced: “We can confirm that Xavi Simons has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee. The 23-year-old sustained the injury during the second half of our Premier League fixture at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
“Xavi will undergo surgery in the coming weeks before beginning his rehabilitation with our medical team. Everyone at Tottenham Hotspur sends him our full support — we will be with him every step of the way.”
Despite the setback, Simons has already begun his recovery process. Just days after the diagnosis, he shared images of himself training in the gym on Snapchat, accompanied by the caption: “No matter what!”
The injury is expected to keep the 23-year-old out for up to eight months, ruling him out of contention for the Netherlands’ World Cup squad.
Sharing his emotions on Instagram, Simons admitted the news has been difficult to process: “They say life can be cruel, and today it feels that way. My season has come to an abrupt end, and I’m still trying to take it all in.
“Honestly, I’m heartbroken. None of it makes sense. All I’ve wanted is to fight for my team, and now that’s been taken away from me… along with the World Cup.
“Representing my country this summer — gone. It will take time to come to terms with it, but I’ll continue to support my teammates in any way I can. I believe we’ll come through this together.
“I’ll face this journey with faith, strength, resilience, and belief as I count down the days until I return. Be patient with me. TTP. COYS.”
Simons is the latest addition to Tottenham’s growing injury list during what has been a difficult season. Cristian Romero is expected to be out for around eight weeks with a knee injury, while Wilson Odobert is also facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines with an ACL issue.
Supporters will now be hoping the remaining squad can steer clear of the relegation zone as the club battles to avoid a drop to the Championship.
